Almost everything you see on a Sunday morning is done by someone who offered. The person who said hello at the door, the words on the screen, the sound that means you can hear the talk, the children looked after in the next room — none of that is staff. It is people in this church giving a bit of their time.
If you have been coming for a while and wondered where you fit, this page is for you. And if you are only looking in from the outside, it will give you a fair idea of what this church is actually like.
Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.

Start by finding your people
Before anything else, we would want you in a Circle.
Circles are our small groups. They meet in homes, cafés and ordinary places and they are where people share life, talk honestly about faith, and pray for one another. The name is the point: no one on the edge, everyone included.
Sundays are good, but you can sit in a room full of people for a year and still not be known. A Circle is where that changes.
If you are already part of the church, speak to any Circle host, or to Mike Selby, and we will find you a group.
If you are new, start with Come and See instead. It is a relaxed get-together over coffee where you can meet a few of us properly and ask anything you like. No pressure, and no commitment — it is a look, not a signing-up. A Circle usually follows naturally from there.
Where we could use a hand
Six areas, and someone in each who will look after you.
Welcome team
Being on the door, saying hello, and helping people feel like they belong before the service has even started. It is also one of the quickest ways to get to know the church family yourself — you end up knowing everybody's name. Speak to Judy Roebuck.
Worship Team
If you play an instrument or sing, come along to a practice. It gives us a chance to hear you and gives you a chance to get a feel for the team before you commit to anything. Speak to Barry Elks or Thakhani Greensmith.
Tech team
Two jobs here. One is sound — running the PA desk so that everyone can actually hear. The other is the screen — putting up the words for the songs and the slides for the talk. Neither needs any previous experience. Speak to Andy.
Sunday school
Working with our children on a Sunday morning, helping them build friendships and discover more about God. This one needs a DBS check and safeguarding training before you start. Speak to Thembi Dube.
Youth
Time with our teenagers and young people as they ask big questions and work out their own faith. As with Sunday school, a DBS check and safeguarding training come first. Speak to Thembi Dube.
Practical jobs
The unglamorous, genuinely useful things — setting up, tidying, small repairs, keeping the building in good order. If you are handy, or just willing, speak to Judy Roebuck in the first instance.
What we would and wouldn't ask of you
You do not need experience. Every area comes with training and someone to shadow, and nobody gets dropped in at the deep end and left there.
Anything involving children or young people needs a DBS check and safeguarding training. That is not us being awkward — it is how we keep everybody safe, and we will walk you through it.
Worship, tech and welcome run on a rota, so you will know well in advance which Sundays you are on. The other areas are more as and when, which suits people whose weeks are unpredictable.
One honest thing. We do ask that anyone serving is a Christian, in every one of these areas. Serving here is part of following Jesus rather than a job that needs filling. If you are not there yet, or you are not sure what you think, Come and See is the place to start — and you would be genuinely welcome.
